Wing’s Walkoff Sends Warriors to 11th Consecutive Victory

TORRANCE, Calif. – Alyssa Wing's RBI double in the bottom of the seventh helped propel El Camino College to a 5-4 walk-off victory over visiting Palomar College Saturday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

With the score deadlocked at 4-4 and a runner on first, Wing stepped up to the plate for the Warriors (20-5) with one out and smacked a double to left-center field. Aleah Lacy, who was in to pinch run for Julianne Adamos after she drew a one-out walk, raced around the bases and scored the game-winning run to lift the Warriors to their 20th win of the year and 11th straight.

It was Wing's only hit of the afternoon but she did walk twice and scored a run on the day.

The Comets (13-6) suffered the loss despite outhitting the Warriors, 8-5, and mounting a three-run comeback in the top half of the seventh to tie the score after trailing throughout the game.

The Warriors jumped on the Comets right off the bat, plating three runs in the first inning. Ashley Machado started things off with a one-out single off Comets starter Crystal DesLauriers. Adamos was then hit by a pitch and Wing drew a walk to load the bases for Haley Reed. But DesLauriers got Reed to hit a comebacker to the circle, where the Comets pitcher fielder the ball and threw to home to record the second out of the frame.

Kamryn Fisher then stepped in and made sure the Warriors did not come out of the inning empty as she cleared the bases with a double to right-center, putting the Warriors up 3-0.

They held that three-run cushion until the fifth inning when the Comets got on the scoreboard thanks to a squeeze bunt by Lexi Williams to cut the Warriors lead to two.

ECC regained the three-run edge in the sixth as Fisher led off the frame with a walk and then pinch-runner Jasmine Krauss stole second base. Brigid Antonelli singled to right field to score Krauss and make it 4-1 with one inning to play.

But the Comets rallied in the seventh, scoring all three of their runs in the frame with two outs. The Comets touched up Reed for three runs on four hits in the frame to tie the score before the Warriors picked up the walk-off win in the bottom half of the inning.

Reed went seven innings and picked up her seventh win of the season while DesLauriers drew just her second loss of the year in the circle.

The Warriors will return to South Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Cerritos College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
