TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Heitor Trefilio had a big day as El Camino College downed Rio Hondo 18-8 in the South Coast Conference opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Aquatics Center.
Trefilio set a new career high with six goals on the afternoon to lead the Warriors. He also added four assists and two steals to cap off his excellent day in the pool.
Robbie Josic added four goals and one assist with Cooper Josic and Marc Bugarin scoring twice each in the victory.
Vios Lopez played the first half and picked up the victory, making two saves in the cage. Sam Adams wrapped up the day, playing the second half and making five saves.
The match was tight early but a three-goal spurt courtesy of Robbie Josic, Bugarin and a Trefilio power-play goal helped turn a 2-2 tie into a three-goal lead for the Warriors in the first quarter.
The Warriors would take control of the match in the second quarter, holding the Roadrunners to just one goal while Trefilio scored three of his goals in the period.
A 5-2 edge in the third quarter essentially cemented the match for the Warriors as the Roadrunners never got the deficit back under eight the rest of the way.
The Warriors will be back in action on Friday at the Santa Monica Mini Tournament as they face Palomar (11:20 a.m.) and Las Positas (12:30 p.m.)
