MWP Splits Day at Eduard Gorodetsky Mini Tournament

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The El Camino College men's water polo team split the day on Friday, October 21st at the Eduard Gorodetsky Mini Tournament held by Santa Monica College.  

They won in their first game over San Diego Mesa before falling against Palomar College in their second game.

El Camino College 14, San Diego Mesa 13

The Warriors had to hold onto a 1-goal lead to preserve the 14-13 win over SD Mesa in their first game of the Eduard Gorodetsky Mini Tournament.  

The Warriors had a dominant first two periods jumping to a 10-5 lead.  They both traded two goals a piece in the third frame to keep a five-goal advantage heading into the final frame, 12-7.  The Olympians almost surged to a comeback over the Warriors in the final quarter after outscoring El Camino 6-2 in the final period but the Warriors did just enough to preserve the win.

Matheus Trefilio led the offense with five goals, Zackary Johnson had four goals and four assists, and Blake Klade chipped in with three goals.  Gary Bellingham had four steals nad made 12 saves.

Palomar College 18, El Camino College 13

The Warriors dropped their second game of the day against Palomar by a score of 18-13.  The Warriors were trailing 10-5 after two periods.  They were not able to overcome the five goal advantage in the final two periods.  

Matheus Trefilio once again led the offense with 4 goals.  Aidan Gutierrez had three goals.  Zackary Johnson and Myles Fourmy each had two goals.  Gary Bellingham led the defense with three steals and six saves.

The Warriors return to the ECC Aquatics Center for their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 26th. The opening swim-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
