Warriors Split First Day of Saddleback Invitational

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors men's water polo split their first day at the Saddleback Tournament.  The Warriors lost to Merced in the first game before defeating Ventura in their second game of the day.

El Camino College 10, Merced College 18

The Warriors had to play from behind early in the game as they were down 7-3 after one quarter and 13-6 at the halftime break. It was only a 5-4 scoring advantage in the second half, but the Warriors were unable to mount a comeback against Merced's lead.

Caio Vieira led the Warriors with 3 goals.  Bronson Garel scored two goals in the game.  Tyler Reed and Lincoln Brydon both had two assists in the game.  Reed also had three steals for the game.  Gary Bellingham made 6 saves after facing 24 shots.

El Camino 18, Ventura College 9

The Warriors started ahead in the game against Ventura after leading 5-1 after the first quarter. At the half the Warriors were leading 8-to-5.  However, the Warriors had a dominant third quarter where they outscored Ventura 6-0 and were able to preserve the 18-9 victory.

The Warriors had three players with three goals in the game as Matheus Trefilio, Caio Vieira, and Zackary Johnson scored three goals.  Tyler Reed, Lincoln Brydon, Aidan Gutierrez, and Myles Fourmy each scored two goals.  Fourmy also led the team with three assists.  Gary Bellingham led the defense with five steals and six saves.
