Men’s Water Polo 2019 Season Recap

The El Camino College Warriors men's water polo team finished the season with a 20-11 overall record and their first playoff berth since 1993. It was also the second most wins in the men's water polo teams history.  

In Noah Rubke's second year as the head coach of the men's water polo team, the Warriors had a fantastic turnaround from an 11-17 record the previous year.  

The Warriors only played two home games the whole year and split the games 1-1.  

They went 2-2 at the Merced North vs South Tournament to start the season in August.  They beat Modesto and Merced and lost to Sierra and American River College.

They lost the first two games of the Mt. Sac Tournament against Orange Coast and Cuesta, but were able to win the next two games against Santa Monica and Southwestern.

They swept the South of the Border Tournament with four wins over Palomar, Las Positas, Fullerton, and Grossmont.

They split the Cerritos College Mini-Tournament with a 1-1 record. They recorded a win agaisnt Palomar and lost against Orange Coast College.

After losing against OCC in the Cerritos Mini-Tournament, the Warriors rattled off an eleven game win-streak.  They swept the Saddleback Tournament with wins over Ventura and Crafton Hills. They beat Chaffey and Rio Hondo in conference play.  They defeated Santa Monica and San Diego Miramar at the first Santa Monica Mini-Tournament. They also defeated Ventura and Southwestern at the second Santa Monica Mini-Tournament.  They defeated Southwestern and Grossmont at the Southwestern College Mini-Tournament. And they beat Chaffey in the opening round of the South Coast Conference Championships

The Warriors lost to Long Beach in the semis and finished in fourth place after losing to Cerritos College in the third place game.  

They qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Men's Water Polo Sectional Championships as the 10th and final seed.  They lost to Orange Coast College 21-9 to finish their season in the first round of the playoffs. 

Cole Allyn led the team with 101 goals for the season.  Nate Griffith was second with 89 goals and Brandon Guerrero third with 57 goals. Joseph Banda led the team with 59 assists and Griffith was right behind him with 58 assists.  Griffith led the team with 84 steals and Josh Terry was second with 71 steals. Brandon Soto started in net for 30 of the 31 games for the Warriors He made 296 saves for the season and recorded a 19-11 record.
