Men’s Water Polo Uses Balanced Effort to Down Rio Hondo

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College got offense from all over the place to record its sixth straight victory with a 19-10 decision over Rio Hondo on Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Pool.

Nate Griffith, Brandon Guerrero, Cole Allyn and Seth Ulrich all recorded four goals to pace the offense for the Warriors and Brandon Soto go the victory in goal as he made seven saves in three quarters of action. Josh Terry added a team-high four assists while Griffith dished out three helpers in the win.

The match was close early as the teams traded the lead twice in the first three minute of action. Adian Morvice hammered in a goal with an assist from Griffith for a 3-2 lead with 4:54 left in the opening period and then Rio Hondo answered with a goal from Travis Wisher to tie things up at 3-3.

With 4:07 left in the first, Joseph Banda scored an unassisted goal and that opened the floodgates as the Warriors ran off six straight goals to take a 9-3 lead midway through the second quarter and they never looked back.

The Warriors would lead by as much as 12 goals after Griffith scored the final goal of the day for the Warriors with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Roadrunners would score three unanswered goals to finish off the match but the Warriors cruised to victory.

The match was ECC's final home match of the year as the team will play its last four matches on the road this week beginning with Ventura and Santa Monica on Friday morning at the Santa Monica Mini Tournament. The Warriors will then head to the South Coast Conference Championships at Pasadena City College beginning on Nov. 7.
