Warriors Defeat Rio Hondo, Lose to Host Santa Monica at SMC Tournament

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - El Camino College suffered a 14-8 loss against Santa Monica College in the first game of the day before coming back to defeat Rio Hondo College 16-13 in their second game.

In an evenly matched affair, the Warriors came from behind to snatch a 16-13 victory over Rio Hondo College.

Seth Ulrich (6 goals) and Sam Waters (4 goals) led the Warriors offense.  Kyle Thorne, Matthew Thorne, and Logan Doersam each contributed goals as well.

El Camino started the game off strong by scoring two goals before Rio Hondo College took a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.  The Warriors finished the first half knotted up with Rio Hondo, 7-7.

In the third quarter, El Camino opened up a 12-10 lead.  And finally in the fourth quarter, the Warriors never relinquished their lead and finished the game off, 16-13. 

Brandon Soto was credited with 11 saves

El Camino started off the game with an early 2-0 lead before eventually falling to Santa Monica College 14-8 at their home pool.

Matthew Thorne led the Warriors offense with 6 goals, Hector Ramirez and Seth Ulrich each contributed one goal a piece.

The Warriors would lead 3-1 in the first quarter before surrending two goals to finish the first quarter knotted up 3-3. In the second quarter, Santa Monica College opened up the period with four goals and finished the second quarter ahead 9-4.

The Corsairs finished the third quarter ahead 13-7 and in the fourth quarter, each team added one goal a piece to finish the game 14-8 in favor of the hosts, Santa Monica College

The Warriors will finish the regular season at the Saddleback Tournament next weekend before heading off to the South Coast Conference Championships
