Big Second Half Leads Warriors to Third Place Finish at Conference Championships

El Camino College used a high-scoring second half to overtake Mount San Antonio 11-6 in the third-place game at the South Coast Conference Championships hosted by Mt. SAC.

The Warriors outscored the Mounties 8-2 in the second half to overcome a two-goal first-half deficit and claim third place at the conference championships. Nate Griffith led the Warriors charge with five goals and two assists while Kyle Thorne added three goals and two helpers of his own.

Jonas Fahrney, Ryan Winkler and Matthew Thorne also scored for ECC and Nicholas Elias made 12 saves in goal to help secure the victory.

The Warriors held an early 2-1 lead after Griffith scored two straight goals in response to Aiden O'Neil's goal to open the scoring for the Mounties.

Mount San Antonio responded with three straight goals to close out the first period and take a 4-2 lead.

Griffith would score his third goal in the second period, the only tally from either side in the frame to send the Warriors into the half down by just one goal.

They would not be down long though as Griffith again scored to open the third quarter and tie things up. Winkler, Fahrney, and Kyle Thorne followed suit to cap off a stretch of five unanswered goals for ECC to give the Warriors a 7-4 lead.

The Mounties cut it down to one with back-to-back goals from O'Neil and Christian Martinez but the Warriors scored the final four goals of the match to secure the victory.
