Warriors Wrap Up Regular Season at Saddleback Invitational

El Camino College finished up the 2017 regular season by splitting its final two matches at the Saddleback Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Saddleback 16, ECC 6

The Warriors hung around early but were shutout in the second half as they dropped the first match of the day against the Gauchos. Nate Griffith and Jason Gottschalk scored two goals apiece with Matthew Thorne and Jonas Fahrney scoring a goal each. Nicholas Elias made eight saves in net.

The first half was close as the Warriors overcame a pair of two-goal deficits in the first half. After falling behind 2-0, Gottschalk netted his two goals 30 seconds apart to tie things up. The Gauchos led 4-2 after one and 5-3 with 6:01 left in the second before Griffith and Fahrney combined for three straight Warriors goals to give them their first and only lead of the match.

But the Gauchos scored 11 straight goals as ECC could not find the back of the net for the rest of the match, falling in the opening match of the day.

ECC 13, Grossmont 9

Griffith and Kyle Thorne led the offense for ECC with four goals apiece with Gottschalk and Matthew Thorne adding two apiece as the Warriors finished off the tournament with a victory.

Elias made 10 saves in the victory as the Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. They maintained their five-goal lead at the half before the Griffins cut into the lead in the third, outscoring ECC 6-3. But ECC outscored the Griffins 4-2 in the final period to secure the victory and end the regular season with a victory.
