TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College fell short of a comeback bid on Wednesday night, falling to L.A. Pierce 3-2 (26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 22-25, 19-17) at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors dropped the first two sets but stormed back to tie the match at two sets apiece before falling in the final set.
Owen Loebs and Bishop Sneed each recorded double-doubles for the Warriors on the night, going for 14 kills and 11 digs apiece. Luke Chambers led the Warriors with 14 digs as the team posted 62 total digs on the night.
But those efforts were not enough as Brandon Ta put together an incredible night for the Brahmas, smashing down 34 kills to go along with 22 digs and three blocks. Ta accounted for more than half of the team's 66 total kills on the night, taking 62 swings. He attacked at a .371 clip to lead the team to victory.
The first set was close and the Warriors outhit L.A. Pierce in the opening frame but seven first-set service errors proved costly for ECC as the Brahmas capitalized and took a 1-0 lead.
After L.A. Pierce dominated the second set, the Warriors fought back in the next two frames, combining for 26 kills and just nine errors in the third and fourth sets while the Brahmas managed 25 kills with 16 errors, which proved costly.
In the fifth, both teams attacked at an excellent rate as the Brahmas hit .435 in the set with the Warriors posting a .500 attack percentage. But Ta proved to be too much to handle for the Warriors as he recorded 10 of the Brahmas' 13 kills in the set including the final three to clinch the match.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday night on the road against Fullerton.
