Sneed, Gronbach Lift Warriors Past L.A. Pierce

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Bishop Sneed and Garrett Gronbach supplied the offense as El Camino College downed L.A. Pierce 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24) in a Western State Conference match on Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors' duo each slammed down 14 kills to bolster an offense that attacked at a .234 clip against the Brahmas. Sneed attacked at a .321 (14-5-28) percentage while Gronbach posted a .267 attack percentage (14-6-30) and also added 10 digs. Overall, the duo accounted for two-thirds of the team's total kills (42) in the victory.

Jacob Flanagan dished out 25 assists while Luke Chambers led the defense with 14 digs.

For the Brahmas, Luis Penate and Vincent Harris each led the team with 9 kills apiece while Karl Manolong dished out 35 assists.

The teams split the first two sets and then the Warriors edged out the Brahmas in the third for a 2-1 lead. The Warriors outhit L.A. Pierce .250-.208 setting the stage for the fourth set, the closest of the match.

The teams were tied 13 times in the fourth and traded the lead three times. The Brahmas were able to take a 24-22 lead despite hitting just .111 in the set. But the Warriors got a kill from Flanagan and consecutive kills from Gronbach to flip things around and take a 25-24 lead.

Jake Suson then slammed down his eighth kill of the night to complete the comeback and score the victory.

In the fourth, Suson had three kills in the frame while Sneed and Gronbach each had four as the team attacked at a .321 clip, the best of any set in the match.  

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday with a road match against Moorpark.
