TORRANCE, Calif. --- First-year head coach Casey Wood recorded his first career victory at the helm of the El Camino College men's volleyball team with a 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-17) victory over visiting Fullerton on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors got 12 kills on 23 swings from freshman Gunner Welch and Garrett Gronbach added eight kills on a .385 attacking percentage to go along with a team-high five service aces and three digs.

Jacob Flanagan dished out 22 assists and David Rawson led the team with two blocks on the night to help secure the victory.

For the Hornets, Isaac Malaga led the way with eight kills and Evan Shank dished out 20 assists in a losing effort.

In the first set, the Warriors used a 5-0 run to turn an 11-9 lead into a seven-point cushion. They then ran off four straight points to take a 23-13 lead and they never looked back to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

The second set was the most competitive with neither team ever leading by more than three points in the set. That honor went to the Hornets as an attack error by ECC made it 19-16 late in the game. But the Warriors fought back and went on a 9-6 run to take a 25-24 lead. After the Hornets fought off the first set point, Welch put the set away with a monstrous kill at the net for a 26-25 lead and then followed that with a blistering serve down the near sideline that left the Hornets defense frozen for a 27-25 win in the frame.

The Warriors would outscore Fullerton 14-4 at one point in the third set to take a 21-10 advantage and cruised to win from there.

The team will return to action on Friday evening when they host Golden West for a 6 p.m. first serve.
