TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College dropped its Western State Conference opener to Long Beach, 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 25-16) Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors (5-2, 0-1) saw their four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday as they were unable to subdue the Vikings' (7-1, 1-0) offense.
Gabriel Vargas-Featherstone led the Warriors with 16 kills on 40 swings and Connor Oliver added 13 kills with a .440 attacking percentage but it was not enough. The Vikings countered with three players in double figures, led by Arsene Ponsin's 25-kill effort and .347 kill percentage. Uriel Batista added 16 kills and Julian Zavala had 13 kills for Long Beach.
The Warriors will return to action on Friday night as they welcome Santa Barbara to the ECC Gym Complex. First serve is at 6 p.m.
