Kevin Heinemann and Nicole Clark Take 1st Place in Javelin Competition to Open the Season for Track & Field

TORRANCE, Calif. - Track and Field opened their 2017 season on Friday, hosting the SCC All-Comers. The Warriors prevailed in the javelin contest with Kevin Heinemann taking 1st place and returning Southern California Champion Nicole Clark taking 1st in the women's competition. Clark came in at 42.33m which beat her previous record of 43.58m, while Heinemann recorded 46.91m.

The Warriors had a strong day, with both women and men placing within the top 10 of their competitions. Sophomore Victoria Porter came in 2nd in the 400 meter dash at 1:00.11, beating her previous year's time. Ashley Wells threw 29.13m in the hammer throw to tie her at 3rd. Ivery Cody ended the 100m hurdles in 8th with Yazmine Al-Uqdah tying for 4th in the high jump. Al-Uqdah also competed in the long jump and 400m dash, ending the long jump in 4th and the 400 in 18th. Antaniece Johnson finished 9th in the long jump and also participated in the 400m to end it in 17th. Marie Abe represented the Warriors in the pole vault and came away with 3rd place with 2.78m, also recording a time of 31.98 in the 200 meter dash.

For the men's team, Alex Castro placed 3rd in the 400m dash with a time of 51.70. Israel Cardona also earned a 3rd place ranking, coming in at 8:52.18 in the 3,000m dash.

Competing in the hurdles for the Warriors was Justin Moore, Josue Vargas and Castro. Moore took the 110m hurdles and placed 9th at 17.11 but ended the 300m hurdles in 5th. Vargas ended the 300m in 3rd and placed 10th in the long jump. Castro was right behind Long Beach City to place 2nd in the 300m low hurdles with 39.75. Ronald Koh also participated in the 300m low hurdles to end it in 7th place.

Both Thomas Craig and Guardado participated in the shot put, with Craig placing 10th (11.58m) and Guardado right behind him in 11th with 10.75m. Craig placed 8th in discus throw, ending it at 36.79m and Guardado placed 16th with 32.36. With Heinemann taking 1st place in the javelin for the Warriors, Craig took 7th with a record of 32.55m and Peter Silva placed 10th (28.76m).

The Warriors travel to Orange Coast College on Friday for their traditional competitive tri-meet with Orange Coast and Cuyamaca.
