Davis, Nonaka and Vasquez Advance at Conference Championships

Connor Davis advanced to the quarterfinals in singles action while the team of Riku Nonaka and Trey Vasquez advanced to the semifinals of doubles play at the Western State Conference Championships Thursday hosted by Cerritos College.

In singles competition, the Warriors had six players compete with Davis, Nonaka and Vasquez all receiving first-round byes.

Ricky Liu and Stephen Whitman each won their first round match while Ernesto Del Rosario fell in straight sets to Johnathan Munoz of Mount San Antonio.

In the second round, Davis scored a three-set win over Brandon Narvaez of Mt. SAC, the only Warriors player to win his second round match.

In doubles action, the Warriors fielded three teams to compete with the duos of Nonaka/Vasquez and Davis/Whitman receiving byes.

Del Rosario and Jae Jun advanced with a first-round victory over Alec Mariscal and Alejandro Cardenas of Mt. SAC before falling in the second round to the team of Victor Castro and Kent Hunter of Cerritos.

Davis and Whitman lost their second round match to Kwang Lee and Dario Rico-Altozano of Cerritos but Vasquez and Nonaka recorded a win over Matt Diamond and Narvaez of Mt. SAC to advance tomorrow's semifinals where they will face the duo of Castro and Hunter from Cerritos.
