Bio

The El Camino College men’s soccer team has added former Cal State Los Angeles goalkeeper Steven Barrerra to its coaching staff as the Goalkeeper coach in 2018.

Barrera enters his sixth season with the Warriors in 2024 and was a member of the Warriors' National Coaching Staff of the Year as named by the United Soccer Coaches after the team won both the 3C2A State Championship and earned the distinction of National Champions from the USC. 

He brings years of playing experience from the NCAA nationally ranked program in Cal State Los Angeles. His experience competing in the NCAA as a player will be a valuable asset to not only his goalkeepers but also the coaching staff.

Barrera, a Bellflower, Calif. native, most recently has served as the the Director of Goalkeeper Training at Coerver Coaching OC in Huntington Beach.

At Cal State Los Angeles from 2013-18, Barrera helped the Golden Eagles’ defense that won California Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) Championships in 2013 and 2018 as well as a NCAA West Region title in 2014. In 2018, Barrera was the CCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Defensive Player after leading the Golden Eagles to the conference tournament championship, as he also earned All-Conferences and All-Region honors. In his senior season for the Golden Eagles, he recorded 10 shutouts with a goals against average of 0.83 and with a saves percentage of .817, making 85 saves on the season.

Following his collegiate career, Barrera had a professional stint playing with the Ventura County Fusion of the Player Development League (PDL)
