TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomores Marvin Gamez and Franco De Luna along with head coach Michael Jacobson earned top honors as the 2024 All-South Coast Conference, South Division Teams were announced on Tuesday.
Gamez earned his second straight SCC-South Offensive Player of the Year award, sharing the prize with Jose Lopez of Cerritos this season. De Luna was named the SCC-South Defensive Player of the Year, the second straight year a Warriors player earned the award after Nicholas Baltazar earned the award last year. Jacobson earned his second straight coach of the year nod after leading the Warriors to their second straight SCC title.
In 2024, Gamez led the Warriors with 10 goals and tied for both the team and conference lead with 10 assists. He recorded four game-winning goals in 19 matches played this season, which was the most on the team.
De Luna started in all 20 matches for the Warriors this season on the back line. He helped anchor a defense that allowed just seven goals in conference play and averaged 0.78 goals allowed per conference game. De Luna also scored two goals to go along with three assists on the season.
Jacobson led the Warriors to a 14-2-4 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in SCC play to net the Warriors their second straight SCC-South Division regular season title. It was the eighth SCC title in school history and the first repeat win since the Warriors won four straight from 1986-89. The Warriors also netted the No. 3 seed in the 2024 3C2A Southern California Men's Soccer Regional Playoffs.
As for the rest of the All-SCC team, the Warriors had eight players selected to the first (Charlie Cazares, Ivan Torres, Alek Palomares, Aldahir Rua) and second team (Diego Garcia, Steven Alvarenga, Joshua Zendejas, Sebastian Gomez) combined.
Cazares earned his second straight selection to the All-SCC First Team in 2024 after playing in 19 matches. He tied for the conference and team lead with 10 assists while scoring two goals on the year.
Torres played in all 20 matches during the regular season, making 19 starts. He was another stalwart on the back line, anchoring the defense that clamped down on opponents during conference play. He also dished out four assists during the year.
Palomares was third on the team in scoring with seven goals and 17 points despite making just one start on the year. He was a testament to the team's depth as he played in 19 matches and averaged more than a point per game.
Rua played in all 20 matches this year, making 18 starts. He was tied for fourth on the team with five goals scored and 14 total points.
Garcia earned his second straight All-SCC selection after earning a first-team nod in 2023. This season, Garcia played in all 20 matches, making 19 starts. He scored three goals and dished out one assist while scoring one game-winning goal on the season.
Alvarenga was another player that provided a spark off the bench, playing in all 20 matches while making only one start. He was second on the team in both goals (8) and points (18) and came in second on the squad with three game-winning goals.
Zendejas was another player that played in every game during the regular season, making 18 starts. He scored three goals and had two assists during the year with two game-winning goals.
