Men's Soccer Ties with LACC, Falls in Shootout in SCC Semifinal

TORRANCE, Calif. -  The El Camino College men's soccer team drew with Los Angeles City College 0-0 in regulation in the South Coast Conference Touranment semifinals and lost the ensuing penalty kick shootout 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Warrior Soccer Field.

The Warriors (14-1-4) will now compete against Cerritos College in the South Coast Conference third place game taking place at El Camino College at 1 PM on Thursday.  The Falcons tied with Long Beach 1-1 on Tuesday but lost 6-5 in the penalty kick shootout.  LACC will compete in the Championship game against Long Beach on Thursday at 7 PM, also taking place at El Camino.  

The Warriors had possession for almost all of the game and they outshot LACC 20-to-4 for the game and had four shots on goal and two shots that hit the post.  However, they weren't able to breakdown LACC's low block against them.  The Warriors also had 11 corner kicks to the Cubs zero corner kicks. 

In the first half, the Warriors outshot the Cubs 11-to-2.  In the second half, the Warriors outshot the Cubs 9-to-2.  Aldahir Rua hit the post twice for the game.  

At the end it came down to penalties to decide a winner to move on to Thursday's championship game.  

Franco De Luna missed the first penalty for the Warriors while Jorge Gomez made his to give the Cubs a 1-0 advantage in the first round. The Warriors made two of their next three with Marvin Gamez clanging his PK off the crossbar to make it 2-1 in the shootout. Robert Baker was immense for the Warriors making three straight saves from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th penalty kick takers from LACC.

With a chance to seal the penalty kick shootout in the fifth round, Andrew Valencia had his penalty attempt saved and Chris Ferrufino gave the Cubs a lifeline after making his to tie it at 2-2 overall.

Both sides made their next two penalties to bring it to 4-4 overall. In the 8th round of penalties, Chris Organista saw his shot hit the post. Julian Carrillo buried his penalty to send the Cubs to their first SCC Tournament Championship game.
