TORRANCE, Calif. - The No. 1 El Camino College Warriors men's soccer team defeated No. 16 Bakersfield College 6-0 on Saturday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field in the first round of the 3C2A Southern California Regionals.

The Warriors (20-1) defeated Bakersfield College for the second time this season after defeating them 4-0 earlier in September.  After Saturday's match, the Warriors scored 10 goals against Bakersfield this season. The Warriors have now scored 97 goals for the season and average 4.62 goals a game.

The Warriors outshot the Renegades 32-8 for the game with 14 shots on goal vs three.  The Warriors had five unique goal scorers for the day with Marvin Gamez being the only player to score twice.

The Warriors came out with their foot on the gas pedal to start the game after having four shots and one corner kick in the first two and a half minutes of the game as they tried to break the Bakersfield defensive shell.

The Renegades defense held strong for the first twenty minutes before the Warriors finally struck one past the defense.  In the 21st minute, Marvin Gamez blasted a shot from 25 yards out after creating space between himself and two defenders.  He hit his shot perfectly to the upper 90 of the left side of the goal for his 21st goal of the season.

Gamez later added his second goal of the game and 22nd of the season four minutes later.  He had a perfect header off a Charlie Cazares corner kick to make it a 2-0 game.

The Warriors would take a 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Bakersfield 17-to-3 and having 9 corner kicks.

The Warriors added their third goal in the 50th minute.  Marvin Gamez dribbled down the right side and crossed a ball to Jovanny Mejia in the box.  Mejia took one touch past his defender and then shot it underneath the keeper to make it a 3-0 game.

The Warriors added their fourth goal two minutes later.  Jovanny Mejia played a through ball to Shingo Nakano who's shot was saved.  Aldahir Rua was there to clean up the rebound for his 8th goal of the season.

The Warriors were gifted a fifth goal in the 79th minute.  The Bakersfield right back passed the ball back to the Renegades goalkeeper who whiffed on the ball allowing Emiliano Amaro to easily shoot the ball into the net to make it a 5-0 game.

The Warriors added their final goal in the 81st minute.  Orlando Valencia-Jimenez played a through ball to Diego Garcia who shot past the keeper down the right side to make it a 6-0 game.

Donovan Palomares made three saves for the game to get his 13th clean sheet of the season.

The Warriors will take on Mt. Sac. for the second round of the CCCAA State Championship Southern California Regional.  The Warriors previously beat the Mounties twice this season.  The first one, 3-0 in October for the beginning of conference play and 3-0 last Friday to win the SCC Tournament Championship.
