United Soccer Coaches' National Players of the Week - Oct. 18 | USC National Rankings Poll - Week 7

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- El Camino College sophomore Jovanny Mejia was named the United Soccer Coaches' National Junior College Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.

Mejia becomes the fourth different Warriors player to earn the award and second straight after Aldahir Rua claimed the award last week.

Mejia scored one goal and added one assist in the No. 1 Warriors' 4-1 victory over Rio Hondo on Oct. 10. He dished out an assist on the first goal of the match and then capped the scoring with a wonderful curling-left footed strike from outside the box that he tucked into the upper far corner.

On Friday, he added another goal to provide insurance in ECC's 2-0 win over East Los Angeles on the road.

Mejia has already started this week on the right note as he logged a goal in the Warriors' 8-0 shellacking of Compton on Tuesday at home. He has scored in three straight matches and is now fifth on the team with five goals scored this season.

The Warriors have now had four USC Players of the Week this season and were also ranked No. 1 in the nation for the third straight week in Tuesday's USC Rankings. The team has won 11 straight matches and will close out the week on Friday against L.A. Harbor at the ECC Soccer Field.
