Men’s Soccer Logs Eighth Straight Win on the Road

NORWALK, Calif. --- El Camino College secured its eighth straight victory on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 South Coast Conference decision at Cerritos.

The Warriors (10-1-0, 2-0-0) edged the Falcons (6-4-2, 0-1-1) thanks to Marvin Gamez's game-winner in at the end of the first half.

Donovan Palomares made six saves on the afternoon and also got some help from his defense as the Warriors recorded one team save. Palomares improved his record to 10-1-0 but saw his shutout streak end at an impressive 599:32.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Aldahir Rua smacked a one-timer past Falcons keeper Juan Pablo Camacho from in front of the net to give ECC a 1-0 edge.

The Falcons would then end Palomares' shutout streak just shy of 600 minutes as Chris Ramirez beat the Warriors keeper to knot things up at 1-1.

It stayed that way until the 45th minute as Alex Salas fired a set-piece to the front of the goal and Gamez pounced on the loose ball just near the left post to stuff it into the net and give the Warriors a 2-1 lead.

The defense held firm from there, blanking the Falcons in the final 45 minutes to score the victory.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Rio Hondo for a South Coast Conference tilt beginning at 2 p.m.
