TORRANCE, Calif.  - The El Camino College Warriors men's soccer team defeated the Los Angeles City College Cubs 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Warrior Soccer Field in the South Coast Conference Tournament fifth place game.

After losing in penalty kicks last week against Long Beach, the Warriors were sent to the consolation bracket in the fifth place game.  The Warriors moved to 16-2-2 overall for the season.  They will await their fate in the CCCAA State Championship Southern California Regionals that will come out next week.

The Warriors dominated the game against the Cubs but were gifted a goal to start the game. Jovanny Mejia stole the ball off a poor goalkeeper touch that allowed him to easily dribble around the keeper and slide the ball into the open net in the 6th minute.

The Warriors would add a second goal before the half ended in the 42nd minute.  Sory Keita had a shot saved by the keeper but the rebound fell to an open Alek Palomares who headed the ball into the open net without a defender on him.

In the second half, a torrential downpour flooded the field creating multiple puddles across the pitch, making it tough for both sides to possess the ball.

Sory Keita added the Warriors third goal on a beautiful free kick from about 25-yards out to the top far post.

The Cubs got one goal back after a penalty kick was awarded to Los Angeles City College after a Warrior handball inside the box.

Ty Kerns added the fourth and final goal for the Warriors in the 84th minute.  Haruki Utsumi weaved his way through the LACC defense down the right side and sent a cross in that felt to Ty Kerns who was able to bury the ball into the back of the net from about 12 yards out.

Donovan Palomares started in goal for the Warriors and played a half and made one save.  Bernardo Silva played the second half for the Warriors and made one save.

The South Coast Conference Tournament will commence on Friday at El Camino College but the Warriors will not be in either the third place or the championship game.  Instead, they will have the weekend off and wait for the Southern California postseason bracket to be released where the Warriors are expected to be a high seed.
