Warriors Open Up Season With Dominant Win at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - The No. 6 ranked Warriors opened up the 2022 season with a solid 3-0 win over Irvine Valley College on Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.  

With six returnees in the starting lineup, the Warriors (1-0) mostly dominated the field of play against the Lasers (0-1).  The Warriors outshot the Lasers 19-10 with 7 on goal for the Warriors and 3 on goal for IVC.

Newcomer Jovanny Mejia got the scoring going early after stealing the ball from the IVC goalkeeper and slotting it to the open net.  

The Warriors would add two goals late in the second half to bury the game.

Mario Carlos got a ball from Tyler Kerns and made a move to beat his defender and curled a ball to the far post to beat the keeper in to make it 2-0.

The Warriors would add their third and final goal off a corner kick.  Mario Carlos found Haruki Utsumi for a free header to finish the game off at 3-0.

Donovan Palomares got the start in net and made three saves for the Warriors to pick up his first career win and clean sheet.

The Warriors head to Santa Monica College on Friday to take on the Corsairs at 3:00 PM.
