TORRANCE, Calif . - The No. 3 El Camino College Warriors men's soccer team dominated No. 11 Bakersfield College in a 3-0 victory at home on Tuesday night at Murdock Stadium in the second round of the CCCAA Southern California Regionals.
With the Warriors (18-4-1) win, they will move on to face the No. 2 seeded Cerritos College on Saturday with a berth to the CCCAA State Championship final four tournament next week.
The Warriors completely dominated the Renegades throughout the game. They outshot Bakersfield 16-5 with 11 shots on goal and just 1 shot on goal for the Renegades.
The Warriors took an early lead in the 5th minute of the game after a Bakersfield own goal. Justin Ortega had his corner kick headed in by a Bakersfield defender inside the near post.
The Warriors doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute after a beautiful team goal. Luis Garibay started the sequence with a pass to Brian Park. Park played the ball to Brandon Galindo who quickly passed it to Mario Carlos and then Carlos passed it back to Park. Park found a streaking Brandon Bautista down the left sideline. Bautista crossed it back into the top middle of the 18-yard box over the Bakersfield defense and Mario Carlos was able to volley it with his right foot on one touch past the Bakersfield keeper.
Luis Garibay made his only save of the night on a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box before the end of the first half.
The Warriors made it a 3-0 game towards the start of the second half. In the 56th minute, Ricardo Martin played a ball to Justin Ortega with anchors of space. Ortega had a speculative shot from 30 yards out that should've been easily saved by the Bakersfield keeper but somehow the ball slipped through his hands into the net to give the Warriors a three goal advantage.
The Warriors now head to the CCCAA Southern California Regional third round for their second season in a row. In 2019, the Warriors were eliminated by the No.1 seeded Mt. Sac at their place. The No.3 Warriors will head to their conference rival the No.2 Cerritos College Falcons field on Saturday, November 27th. The Falcons defeated Oxnard College 1-0 at home on Tuesday.
The Warriors and Cerritos have one win and one loss against each other this season. The Warriors defeated Cerritos 2-0 at Cerritos to finish the regular season. The Warriors then dropped a 3-1 game at their place in the semifinals of the South Coast Conference tournament. This will be the third game against the Falcons this season, with all three games taking place at Cerritos. =
Kick-off will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
