TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College men's soccer team salvaged a draw in the final minutes of the game in a 1-1 draw with LA Harbor on Friday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.
The Warriors (12-2-1, 3-2-1) needed a last minute goal by Mario Carlos to get at least a point in a draw with the Seahawks (6-8-3, 0-4-2).
The Warriors looked sluggish to start the game and LA Harbor was the better side and had nine shots in the first half to the Warriors five. The Seahawks had five shots on goal compared to the Warriors zero shots on goal in the first half.
The Warriors played better in the second half and outshot the Seahawks 11 shots to 4. However, LA Harbor took the lead in the 70th minute of the game. Eli Ristovski was called for a hand ball inside the box after a ball was judged to have hit his arm in an unnatural position. Fernando Alejo scored his 14th goal of the year with a penalty kick down the middle.
With the Seahawks using time wasting tactics to kill the game off, the Warriors pressed for an equalizer and finally got it in the 89th minute of the game. Brandon Galindo played a short pass to Justin Ortega who sent the ball from the midfield circle down to a streaking Andy Cabrera down the right sideline. Cabrera one-timed a perfect crossed ball to Mario Carlos who headed into the net for his 11th goal of the season and his fifth goal in the last three games.
Luis Garibay made seven saves and picked up his first tie of the season. Former Warrior goalkeeper and current Seahawk Wilmer Coyt made two saves in the game.
The Warriors next match will be at Long Beach City College on Tuesday, October 26th. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
