El Camino College midfielder Melvyn Perez-Cortez will be continuing his soccer career at Cal Poly Pomona.

The 5-foot-5 freshman had an outstanding debut season for the Warriors in 2019, leading the team with 19 points. He scored seven goals to go along with five assists. He scored game-winning goals against Norco on Sept. 10 and Compton on Nov. 1.

Perez-Cortez was named to the All-South Coast Conference First Team as a freshman and also earned CCCAA All-Region and All-State selections. He was named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 1. He scored two goals against Compton on Nov. 1 including the game-winner and also had an assist against Pasadena on Oct. 29.

Perez-Cortez was instrumental in leading the Warriors to a 14-3-5 overall record and a No. 4 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regionals. The Warriors advanced to the third round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals where they fell, 1-0, to No. 1 seed Mount San Antonio.
