MSOC: Six Warriors Given All-Conference Honors

TORRANCE, Calif. - The 2019 South Coast Conference men's soccer teams were announced and six Warriors were given all-conference recognition for the 2019 season.  

Three Warriors were named to the All-South Coast Conference first team.  Freshman Larry Lopez and Melvyn Perez-Cortez along with sophomore Oliver Diaz.  And three more Warriors were named to the All-South Coast Conference second team.  Sophomores Matt Villongco and Eduardo Grados along with freshman Jorge Alvarenga

2019 All-South Coast Conference First Team

Larry Lopez - The freshman forward was named to the All-SCC First Team.  Lopez was fifth on the team with 12 points for the season. Lopez had four goals and four assists with two game-winners against Citrus and Chaffey.  Lopez was also named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week after his late goal winner at Chaffey College.  

Melvyn Perez-Cortez - The freshman midfielder was named to the All-SCC First Team and was the team leader in points with 19.  Perez-Cortez was tied for the team lead in seven goals and also had five assists. He had two game-winning goals against Norco and Compton.  He was also named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player Of the Week after his standout performances against Pasadena City College and Compton College.

Oliver Diaz - The sophomore was named to the All-SCC First Team for the second straight season.  After playing last season in the backline, Diaz was converted to the midfield for the 2019 season and excelled in the more advanced position.  Diaz was second on the team with 18 points. He scored seven goals and had four assists for the season. He had three game-winning goals against Irvine Valley, Moorpark, and Orange Coast College.  Diaz was one of the three players to play in all 22 games for the Warriors for the season.

2019 All-South Coast Conference Second Team

Matthew Villongco -  One of the few returners from last year's squad, the sophomore defender was named to the All-SCC second team.  Villongco started in 18 of the 20 games he played for the season. Villongco cemented his position in the starting lineup after the sixth game of the season. He had one assist for the season in the game against Rio Hondo College.

Eduardo Grados - The sophomore attacking midfielder was named to the All-SCC Second team for the second straight season.  Grados was fourth on the team with 13 points for the season. Grados scored five goals and three assists for the season. He had two game-winning goals against Glendale and Bakersfield. 

Jorge Alvarenga - The freshman midfielder was named to the All-SCC second team.  Alvarenga was one of three Warrior players to play in all 22 games for the season.  Alvarenga scored one goal and had two assists for the season. The defensive midfielder scored his only goal of the season in the first game against Citrus.

The Warriors had a fantastic season that fell just one game short of the CCCAA Final Four in just the second year under head coach Mike Jacobson.  The Warriors doubled their win total from last season (7-7-6) to an outstanding 14-3-5 record. The Warriors lost just three games all season against the two conference foes ranked above them in Cerritos (twice) and Mt. Sac. The Warriors fell in the third round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs against the No.1 seeded team Mt. Sac.
