Lopez Nets Late Goal to Lift Warriors to Big Road Win

No. 5 El Camino College remained unbeaten on the season and scored a big result Tuesday afternoon with a 1-0 road victory at No. 15 Chaffey.

Larry Lopez scored in the 86th minute for the Warriors (6-0-1) to net the only score of the match and give ECC its fifth straight victory. Luis Garibay continued his stellar work in goal as he recorded his sixth win of the season and made four saves.

With the win, the Warriors have the best record through September since 2006 when ECC went 9-2 through the first five weeks of the season. The 2006 squad went 8-2 in non-conference play.

This week, the Warriors moved up to No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches NJCAA DIII Men's Top 25, up three spots from their debut at No. 11 last week.

The Warriors have scored 16 goals this season while the defense has been incredibly stingy, allowing only two goals in the team's first seven matches.

The team will close out non-conference action on Oct. 1 when they hit the road to take on Bakersfield. Kickoff for that match is set for 4 p.m.
