Warriors Place Sixth in First OEC Neutral Match

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- El Camino College posted one of its best efforts of the season on Wednesday as the Warriors placed sixth in the first Orange Empire Conference Neutral Match of the season hosted by Orange Coast College at the Los Lagos Golf Course in Costa Mesa Country Club.

The Warriors shot a collective 32-over 392 at the 6,567-yard par-72 course. It was the team's best score in a tournament this season at a par-72 course and best since their home match on Feb. 28 at Alondra Golf Course.

Cuyamaca took home the team victory with a 15-over 375, edging runner-up Cypress (376) by one stroke. The host Pirates finished third with a 19-over 379 and got the edge over fourth-place Saddleback (379) thanks to their No. 6 golfer score tiebreaker. Mount San Antonio rounded out the top five with a 25-over 385.

Bradley Yamamoto posted a season-best 2-over 74 to finish tied for 10th, his second top-10 finish of the year and fourth by a Warriors golfer this year. He was just four shots back of medalist Tiger Tahvildari of Orange Coast who carded a 2-under 70, the only player to break par in the 60-player field. Three players finished with an even-par 72 to tie for second and five players tied for fifth with a 1-over 73.

Chan Woo Suk tied for 22nd with a 6-over 78 while Daniel Crossan tied for 27th, just one stroke back with a 7-over 79. Kevin Hikichi carded an 80 and Yvo Galvez finished with an 81 to round out the team's scoring. Aaron Honigsfeld carded an 84, his best score of the season in his second outing of the year.

The Warriors will return to OEC Coastal Divison play on Monday when they head to Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club for a conference match hosted by Saddleback. Players will begin teeing off at 12:30 p.m.
