TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered an 84-82 South Coast Conference, South Division loss to L.A. Southwest on Friday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors put forward a great effort as three players scored in double figures. Shamar Carter led the way with 28 points on 10-for-15 shooting and 6-for-10 from beyond the arc with Billy Ray Barnes III adding 18 on 7-for-12 shooting. Zachary Bates added 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting and had a great look from 3-point range to tie the game with 11 seconds left that fell short, one of his few misses from distance in the game.

For the Cougars, Chidi Obichere led all scorers with 43 points, scoring more than half of the team's points. He went 15-for-26 from the field and 10-for-14 from the free throw line with three 3-pointers on seven tries.

The game was very competitive as the teams were tied five times and traded the lead on three occasions on Friday night. No team led by more than eight points and the Warriors had one last chance to tie things up.

After Obichere hit a layup with 22 seconds left to make it 83-80, the Warriors came back out of an L.A. Southwest timeout and generated a great look. Barnes III and Carter drew the attention of the defense and Barnes III hit Bates with a great pass through a double-team to a wide-open Bates on the right wing. Bates, who set a new career-high with 17 points on Friday, was 3-for-6 from distance at the time and was just long on his seventh attempt. The Warriors would make a layup with 0.2 seconds left but that was their last bucket of the game.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday night with a road game at Long Beach. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
