TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College struggled mightily in the first half and it proved too much to overcome in a 85-68 South Coast Conference, South Division loss to L.A. Southwest on Friday evening at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (12-12, 1-5) shot just 27.3 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes and trailed the Cougars (12-10, 4-2) by 22 by halftime.

The Warriors fared much better in the second half and cut the deficit to 14 at one point but they would get no closer.

Mo Cruz led the team with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting with Gabe Hubbard adding 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.

The Cougars had five players score in double figures with Omarian Shackleford leading the way with 18 points. Dondre Watson added 15 points while Randarius Jones had 13 points and 15 rebounds and Kendall Collins had 11 points with nine assists.

The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday night as they face Long Beach on the road for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
