Men’s Basketball Winning Streak Snapped on Wednesday

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered its first loss of the season with a 87-72 defeat at the hands of San Diego Mesa on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (4-1) had their four-game winning streak to start the season snapped by the Olympians (4-2) thanks to a season-high 31 turnovers.

The Warriors got 21 points from Billy Ray Barnes III and 14 from Alexis Maria on 4-for-7 shooting from 3-point range. Dwayne Moore added 11 points in 21 minutes off the bench despite early foul trouble.

For the Olympians, Jaiden Pate led all scorers with 33 points and Daron Taylor added 20 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

The story of the game was the turnovers as the Warriors coughed it up a season-high 31 times which led to 30 points for the Olympians. The transition game also favored the visitors as the Olympians tallied 21 fast-break points with the Warriors managing just six in transition.

The Warriors will return to action this weekend with games at Grossmont (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Southwestern (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.).
