Williams-Youngblood Spurs Warriors Comeback over Rio Hondo

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat visiting Rio Hondo 70-66 Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (4-13) outscored the Roadrunners (3-16) by 16 points in the second half and used a 15-2 scoring run in the second half to overtake Rio Hondo and eventually score the victory.

Darrian Williams-Youngblood led the way for ECC as he scored 20 points on 9-for-21 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out a team-high four assists. Chase Pitts and Jamal Howard each scored 12 points and Jason Vasquez added 10 off the bench in the victory.

John Mims led the Roadrunners with 26 points with Aaron Patterson adding 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Warriors had a miserable first half, shooting just 21.9 percent (7-for-32) from the field in the opening 20 minutes. They hit just two of their 11 attempts from beyond the arc and two of their seven free throw attempts in the first half.

But the offense picked up in the second half as they shot 54.1 percent (20-for-37) from the field and hit four threes. Williams-Youngblood scored 13 of his 20 in the second half as he shot 6-of-11 in the final period.

The Warriors have now won two straight games against South Coast Conference-North Division opponents and will look to make it three straight when they hit the road Friday to take on L.A. Trade Tech. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
