El Camino College opened the 2019-20 campaign with a 97-68 loss against Citrus Friday night at the Owl's Nest.
The Warriors (0-1) got double-figures from sophomores Jason Vasquez and Jamal Howard while newcomer Corey Madison added 13 points off the bench in the loss to the Owls (1-0), a team that went deep into the state tournament last season and returned many of those players for this season.
Toby Okwuokei led all scorers with 30 points off the bench for the Owls while Kendal Frey added 14 points.
The Warriors shot 52.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range but the Owls also shot 50 percent from the field and went 17-for-31 from beyond the arc, sinking 12 more 3-pointers than the Warriors on the night and it proved to be the difference.
The Warriors are now set to begin a four-game homestand beginning Wednesday night when they host L.A. Pierce. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
