Victorious Night For The Warriors, Defeating LBCC 123-119

TORRANCE, Calif. – It was a victorious night for the Warriors (11-13) as they beat the Long Beach City College Vikings (6-17), 123-119.  Last time the Warriors faced the Vikings, they lost 109-98. The Warriors offense was unstoppable, scoring 123 points – the most they have scored all season in regulation time.

At the half, the Warriors led 60-52. The teams' offense was remarkable. Sophomore Brandon Guerrero led the half in scoring, with 14 points. Guerrero also went 3 for 4 on 3 pointers made. Freshman Jamal Heckard had 11 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists.

In the second half, the Warriors put up another 63 points. The game came close in the final 5 minutes when the Vikings came back.  Sophomore Munachiso Nwodili had a phenomenal block, keeping from the Vikings to keep the score at 122-117.

Heckard finished the game with 29 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Heckard has average 19.3 points per game, ranking him 15th overall in the CCCAA and 7th in conference. Coach Robert Uphoff commented, "He [Jamal Heckard] has been outstanding in conference. He is one of those guys that creates space to take his own shot. He has been huge…a guy we rely on to score baskets throughout the game and even downs the stretch."

Che Madrid and Brandon Guerrero both finished the game with 18 points each. Off the bench, Brandon Harris scored 15 points.

The Warriors finished the game 123-119.  Uphoff added, "We wanted to play up-tempo. The one thing we felt like we had an advantage of was that we were deeper than Long Beach. We went down to a five man rotation to keep guys a little more fresh."

 The Warriors have three games left this season and face EC-Compton (23-4) at home, Friday, February 10th at 5:00pm. EC-Compton is ranked 3rd in Southern California Regional Rankings.
