Warriors Open League Play with Road Win

MOORPARK, Calif. --- El Camino College opened National Northern League play with a 52-41 victory over Moorpark on Saturday night at Griffin Stadium.
The Warriors put up 38 points in the opening half including 24 in the first quarter to take a big lead and were able to hold off a late surge by the Raiders to secure the win.
Tyler Karen went 14-for-21 for 173 yards and two touchdowns while seven ball carriers combined for 195 rushing yards to lead the offense.
Ky'yin Arrington led the Warriors with 11 tackles (seven solo) and Rashad Lawrence added seven tackles with two sacks to lead the defensive effort.
Things started off on the wrong not for ECC as the Raiders scored on their opening drive in just 59 seconds to take a quick 7-0 lead.
But the Raiders took a risk on the ensuing kickoff, trying an onside kick that the Warriors easily recovered. The Warriors would score on the ensuing drive in just 34 seconds and then Emilio Gutierrez picked off Raiders' quarterback Kadyn Parr at the Raiders 25 to give ECC a short field. The Warriors would have to settle for a field goal but still took a 10-7 lead thanks to the turnover.
The Raiders again would answer with a 10-play, 75-yard drive to retake the lead at 17-14.
But the Warriors offense was humming in the first half as they scored 28 straight points before halftime to take a 38-20 lead into the break and they never looked back.
The Raiders did cut the deficit to 11 just before the end of the third quarter but both defenses clamped down in the final period as neither team scored in the fourth.
With the win, the Warriors are now 9-2 against the Raiders all time and have won six straight meetings dating back to 2016.
The Warriors will look to stay perfect in league play on Saturday as longtime rival Bakersfield visits Featherstone Field at Murdock Stadium for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The two teams have met 66 times since 1947 with the Renegades holding a slim 28-27-1 edge but the Warriors have won the last four meetings including a forfeit win 2021.
