TORRANCE, Calif. --- There is a new all-time sack king in El Camino College history as sophomore linebacker Lando Brown set the new career mark in Warriors history on Saturday afternoon in the team's 30-20 victory over Chaffey at Featherstone Field at Murdock Stadium.

Brown, who entered the game with 21 career sacks and trailed former ECC all-time career leader Daniel Steward (2008-09) by two, got just enough against the Panthers to take over the throne as he recorded 2.5 sacks on Saturday.

In the third quarter, Brown sped by his blocker and drilled Panthers' quarterback Nicholas Poulos on the blind side for an eight-yard loss to break the record that stood for 12 seasons.

The play itself also proved pivotal as the Warriors would block a punt on the next play and return it for a touchdown to take a 16-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Brown currently stands with 14.5 sacks on the season, which leads the Southern California Football Association. Brown is also tied with Marques Johnson (2011) for the second most sacks in a single-season in ECC history. Stewart holds the record with 15, which he set as a freshman in 2008.

As for the game, the Warriors struggled offensively in the first half as they trailed 6-3 after 30 minutes of action.

The Warriors were able to take their first lead of the game on the opening drive of the second half as Mehki Jordan found Joshua Lorick in the end zone from 19 yards out to cap a 7-play, 46-yard scoring drive and give ECC a 9-3 lead after the missed extra point.

Things stayed that way until later in the third when Brown recorded his record-breaking sack and the ensuing blocked punt and return for a touchdown gave ECC a double-digit lead.

The Warriors would never look back, eventually scoring 30 unanswered points to take a 30-6 lead with 10:37 left in the game.

But the Panthers made it interesting, scoring 14 straight points to cut the deficit to 10 with 1:21 left. They elected to kick the ball away to the Warriors and were rewarded on the first play of the drive as Warriors quarterback Kijjon Foots botched a handoff and the Panthers fell on the ball to recover at the Warriors' 25.

The Warriors defense was able to mount a last stand, however, forcing a three-and-out and then kicker Jacob Meneses missed a field goal from 42 yards away to seal the win for ECC.

The Warriors will conclude the 2022 regular season next Saturday with a road contest against Palomar.
