Brumfield Scores Three Times as Warriors Wallop Chaffey in Home Finale

TORRANCE, Calif. – Running back Torrance Brumfield had a banner day in the backfield for No. 16 El Camino College as the Warriors finished off their home schedule with a 55-28 National Central Conference victory over Chaffey on Saturday afternoon at Murdock Stadium.

Brumfield led a potent offensive attack for the Warriors (5-4, 2-2) with 180 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground. He finished the day with 111 rushing yards on 14 carries along with 69 receiving yards on just three catches.

As a team, the Warriors offense dominated the Panthers (1-8, 0-4) with a season-high 621 total yards of offense including 203 yards on the ground. Quarterbacks Aaron Thomas and Cole Klayman combined to throw for 418 yards and four touchdowns. Klayman finished 11-for-14 for 212 yards and a score while Thomas drew the bulk of the snaps in the second half and went 13-for-19 for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

Stephon Robinson was a favorite target for both quarterbacks as he finished with a game-high seven catches for 177 yards and two scores.

De'Jon Richardson led the defense with eight tackles including 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards. The defense also had two takeaways with Shahman Moore recording an interception in the end-zone and returning it 56 yards while Lionel Kendrick finished the day with six tackles and a forced fumble.

The Warriors jumped all over the Panthers early, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first 20 minutes of action. But the Panthers cut the deficit to seven when quarterback Connor Mire connected with Elijah Nichols for a 77-yard touchdown on the first play of the second half to make it a 21-14 game.

That's as close as the visitors would get though as the Warriors again put together three straight scores to regain their big lead. Brumfield was responsible for two of those touchdowns, running in scores from 14 yards and 19 yards on consecutive drives following the Chaffey score to help the Warriors gain separation.

The Warriors finished off their home schedule with a 4-1 record and outscored their opponents 259 to 118 in Murdock Stadium, the team's second full season in the new venue. They averaged 51.8 points a game at home and outgained opponents 2,557 yards to 1,614 including a 1,846-1,072 edge in passing yards.

The 2017 regular season will conclude on the road for the Warriors as they take on rival Long Beach City College next Saturday, Veterans Day, from Veterans Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
