Mason Named Defensive Player of the Week

SCFA Week Four Players of the Week

For the fourth consecutive week, a member of the El Camino College football team was recognized by the Southern California Football Association as a player of the week, it was announced Tuesday.

Warriors' linebacker Mike Mason was named the SCFA Defensive Player of the Week in the National Central Conference after leading the team with 11 tackles in Saturday's top-10 showdown against Saddleback on the road.

Mason became the first Warriors player to record double-digit tackles this season against the Gauchos. He recorded four solo tackles and had one tackle for a loss of five yards.

This season, Mason leads the team with 25 tackles (10 solo) in four games and has one fumble recovery. He's led the team in tackles in two of the four games this year and has been part of a defense that had allowed just 11 points per game prior to Saturday's contest against the high-powered offense of the Gauchos.

Mason joins De'Edward Cormier, Stephon Robinson, and Cole Klayman (twice) as Warriors players that have been named an SCFA Player of the Week this season.

The Warriors wrap up non-conference play this week when they head to Bakersfield to face the Renegades on the road. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
