Warriors Come Up Short Against Gauchos, 60-33

Torrance, Calif. - Sophomore quarterback David Sills counted three of the team's five touchdowns, but the Warriors (2-2) came up short against Saddleback (4-0), 60-33, on Saturday evening.

Sills rushed for two touchdowns, while connecting with sophomore Zaire Andre for his third. Overall on the day, Sills was 14-for-25 for 162 yards, while rushing an additional 71 yards on 10 attempts.

The Gauchos jumped out to an early 25-0 lead in the first before Sills and Andre counted 13 before the half expired with Saddleback leading 46-13. Andre led the receiving corp in the game with three receptions for 46 yards.

The Warriors outscored Saddleback 13-7 in the third behind a 14-yard run by Sills and a four-yard rush by freshman running back Donovan Davis. Davis scored after a forced fumble by freshman defensive back Earl Barnes, recovered by sophomore defensive back Nathaniel Vaughn.

In the final quarter, the Warriors had a pair of opportunities to continue to chip away at the Gauchos' lead. But the two teams matched each other with touchdowns to hold the game in favor of Saddleback.

Sophomore linebacker Deadre Brewer and Barnes led the defense with 12 tackles each. Brewer also counted a tackle for loss, and Barnes tallied the team's lone interception.

The football team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, hosting Bakersfield for its Homecoming game. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Murdock Stadium. Live video will also be available.
