TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College battled late but could never quite get over the finish line in a 5-4 South Coast Conference loss to Compton on Thursday afternoon at Warrior Field.

For the majority of the game, the Warriors (8-8, 3-2) couldn't muster much offense but overcame a pair of two-run deficits in the seventh and eighth innings before eventually falling in the ninth.

Angel Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Matt Hammond went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored to highlight the team's offense.

Both starters were solid depite garnering a no-decision on each side. James Broughton went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

On the other side, Gabriel Lizarraga allowed two runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts. He kept the Warriors off the scoreboard through six before he was hooked in the seventh after allowing a pair of hits in the frame.

At the end of the day, Elijah Belden picked up the win after entering the game in the eighth inning. He allowed two hits and both inherited runners to score but was the pitcher of record when the Tartars took the lead with a run in the ninth. John Stangl picked up his second save.

Aaron Ragat took the loss for ECC as he went three innings and allowed three runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

The series loss to the Tartars marks the first time the Warriors have dropped a conference series to Compton since 2015 when the Tartars swept the Warriors. This year's ECC squad will look to salvage one game in the series when the teams meet one last time on Saturday with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
