Meidroth Walks Off Vikings At Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - Connor Meidroth was the hero on Thursday afternoon as he hit a walk-off base hit to lift the Warriors in a 7-6 win over the LBCC Vikings at Warrior Field to clinch their fifth South Coast Conference series in a row.

After blowing a 6-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning, the Warriors (26-10, 16-4 SCC) needed to rally late to get the win over the Vikings (16-20, 12-8 SCC).  The Vikings scored three runs on three hits in the top of the eighth off reliever Casey Kitagawa.

The Warriors had a great chance to respond in the eighth inning after loading the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batsman.  But they grounded into a double play to end the eighth inning without pushing a runner across.

In the bottom of the ninth, Juan Carlos Camerena was the first Warrior to get on board with a single.  Jaedeyn Edwards worked a walk in the next at-bat to put two runners on.  Long Beach changed pitchers to Max Sasaki who had a wild pitch to put both runners in scoring position.  Connor Meidroth blooped a single to shallow left field to bring in the winning run for the Warriors.

Ethan Felix went 3-for-4 from the dish to lead the Warriors offense.  Julio Camerena had a base hit and three RBIs and Connor Meidroth had two RBIs.

David Case had a quality start as went seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits, three walks, and fanned seven.  Kitagawa allowed three runs in 0.2 innings of work.  Jason Davis tossed the final 1.1 frames and allowed zero runs on two walks and two strikeouts.

The Warriors scored in the first inning after Dylan Knowles scored from second base after a throwing error on a double play attempt ended up in the Vikings dugout. The Vikings tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning.

The Warriors put up a crooked number in the fourth inning. The Warriors loaded the bases with two outs before the Vikings starter walked in two runs.  Julio Camarena had a bases clearing double down the RF line to make it a 6-1 game.

The Vikings added two runs in the seventh to make it a 6-3 game before adding three more in the eighth inning to tie the game at 6-6.  The Vikings rattled off five unanswered runs before Meidroth's late game winning base hit.

The Warriors will for their second straight conference sweep on Saturday at Long Beach. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
