Nakawake, Orozco Earn Player of the Week Honors

El Camino College shortstop Taishi Nakawake and pitcher Aaron Orozco were named the California Community College Baseball Coaches' Association Southern California Player and Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Thursday.

Nakawake had a solid weekend at the plate, going 4-for-12 (.333) with a double, a run scored and three RBI. In Friday's game, Nakawake came through with a two-out, bases loaded go-ahead double to drive in the game-tying and go-ahead runs in the ninth inning to give ECC a 4-3 lead. The Warriors would go on to win 5-3 at Bakersfield. In Saturday's finale, he drove in the game-tying run with a single in the seventh inning to lock things up at 3-3 and eventually send the game into extra innings.

Orozco tossed seven strong innings in Friday's game at Bakersfield and allowed just two runs on two hits in seven innings of work. He walked three and struck out 10, setting a new career high in punchouts.

So far this season, Nakawake has been one of the Warrior's best hitters posting a .308 batting average in 8 games played.  Nakawake has scored 8 runs and 4 RBIs for the season.

Orozco has been stellar on the mound for the Warriors in three starts.  He has a 2.12 ERA through 17 innings pitched and has fanned 20 batters so far.  He has only given up 7 hits for the season.

The Warriors host LA Mission on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Warrior Field.
