Wissler’s Game-Winning Hit Clinches Series at L.A. Harbor

Cody Wissler drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as El Camino College scored a 4-3 South Coast Conference victory over L.A. Harbor Saturday afternoon at O'Brien Field.

Wissler went 2-for-4 at the dish for the Warriors (19-13, 8-6) on Saturday with his seventh-inning single proving to be the difference after the Seahawks overcame a three-run deficit to tie things up. Joseph Borges led the Warriors offensively, going 3-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Jose Ruiz Jr. was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.

Spencer Long was solid on the mound for ECC, going seven and 2/3 innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits. He walked one and struck out two en route to victory. Tommy Stropky collected the final four outs to pick up his third save of the year.

Ruiz Jr. gave ECC the early lead, smoking a two-run homer off Seahawks starter Alec Abdalah to put the Warriors up 2-0.

A sacrifice fly from Jerry Granillo made it 3-0 in favor of ECC before the Seahawks began chipping away at the Warriors lead.

A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth made it 3-1 and then Chris Villavicensio hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to bring the hosts within a run.

They completed the comeback in the sixth on an RBI single from Dominc Bravo to make it 3-3.

The Warriors quickly regained the lead though as Diego Alarcon led off with a double and then advanced to third on a flyout. The Seahawks intentionally walked Spencer Palmer and Abdalah got a popout from Matthew Beserra for the second out.

The Seahawks then brought in R.J. Ebert to face Wissler to try and escape the jam, but Wissler punched a single through the infield to drive in Alarcon and give the Warriors the lead for good.

Long allowed a single and nothing else in the seventh and then got the first two outs of the eighth before the Seahawks mounted a rally with a single and then a fielding error to put two runners on base and end Long's day on the mound.

Stropky was called upon and got out of the jam, inducing a groundout from Jon Lopez-Orozco to end the frame.

In the ninth, Stropky hit a batter with one out but he was erased trying to steal second base. A single put another runner on but Stropky got Villavicensio to pop out to third to end the game and secure the series win for the Warriors.

The Warriors will return to action Tuesday as they kick off another important conference series at Long Beach. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
