Strong Offensive Output Carries Warriors Over Mounties in Conference Win at Home

TORRANCE, CALIF. - Two big offensive innings from El Camino College led to a dominant 9-1 conference victory over Mt. Sac on Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Jose Ruiz Jr. led the way offensively for the Warriors (10-8, 2-1) with two hits, two runs, and four RBI's.  Ruiz Jr. hit his 4th home run of the season in a five run bottom of the 3rd inning for the Warriors.

Spencer Long pitched a great game after a shaky start in the 1st inning.  Long went 7 innings giving up just one run, five hits, 3 walks, and six strikeouts.  Tommy Stropky continued his stellar season in relief and pitched two shutout innings and giving up just one hit to finish the game out for the Warriors.

The Mounties (12-6, 2-1) took the lead early in the Top of the 1st after Long hit the first batter of the game and issued a walk to the next batter.   The man on 2nd base stole third base and a throwing error by Ruiz Jr. allowed the run to score. Long would allow one more batter to reach the bases in the 1st inning but settled down to get out of the inning without allowing another run.

Taishi Nakawake started the big 3rd inning for the Warriors with a single to left field.  Jordan Folgers would then blast his third home run of the year over the left field fence to make it a 2-1 game for the Warriors.

Spencer Palmer hit a one-out single to left center and Cody Wissler would follow him with a two-out single up the middle to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Ruiz Jr. then deposited his second home of the year with a 3-run shot over the left field wall to make it a 5-1 lead for the Warriors.

The Mounties would change pitchers and Jerry Granillo grounded out to short to end the frame.  However, the Warriors put up a five-spot to give them the lead for the rest of the game.

El Camino College would strike again for four runs in the Bottom of the 5th inning.  Folgers and Palmer led off the inning with back to back walks. Matthew Beserra would fly out to center field for the first out, and then Cody Wissler walked to make it bases loaded for the Warriors.  After a Mt. Sac pitching change, Jose Ruiz Jr. then singled to right center to score one run for the Warriors to make it 6-1. A passed ball during the next at-bat would bring in another run for the Warriors to make it a 7-1 game.

Sean Whorley picked up his first hit of the season with an infield hit to second base to bring in one run to make it 8-1.   But the second basemen dropped the ball and that allowed Ruiz Jr. to round third base and also score on the play to make it a 9-1 game.  Nakawake would ground out to short to end the frame, but the Warriors had already struck for four runs that inning.

El Camino College returns to action for their third game of the week out of four on Thursday afternoon at Mt. Sac.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Mazmanian Field.
