Baseball Opens Season With Win Against College of the Canyons

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Warriors Baseball team began their season with a win on the road against host College of the Canyons. Taylor Rashi pitched four innings and earned six strikeouts, allowing only two runs. Cody Wissler earned three hits and a run while both Hunter Lewis and Jake Carr had two hits, Carr earned two runs.

The Warriors took a 4-0 lead at the top of the third, mostly due to errors by Canyons and only gave up a run. Jake Carr was the first to gain a run for the Warriors off a passed ball by Canyons. An error by the Cougar short stop brought home two Warriors and Noah Barba hit a ball to center field which allowed Brady Dorn to make it home for the Warriors.

Canyons tied the game at six in the eighth inning when Anthony Medina hit a single to right field which brought in both batters on base.

Barba and Wissler both made runs in the final inning. The Cougars got two hits but were unable to get any batters home to end the game in the Warriors' favor.

"I thought the team really showed some heart today. After a tough 8th inning they came right back and scored two runs in the ninth," commented Coach Nate Fernley.

The Warriors host Canyons on Saturday for their first home game of the season. First pitch is set for noon.
