D’Angelo and Dorr Nab Sixth Seed at SoCal Pairs Regionals
TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College top pair of Ryan D'Angelo and Bridget Dorr emerged as the No. 6 seed after wrapping up play at the 3C2A Beach Volleyball Southern California Regionals on Saturday at the ECC Sand Courts.
The duo began the day in the quarterfinals but suffered a 21-17, 21-17 loss to Grace Hazelton and Larissa Dakoske from Moorpark to drop into the consolation bracket.
In their second match of the day, D'Angelo and Dorr bounced back with a win over the team of Alba Romanos-Garcia and Kylie Ibbotson from Ventura in three sets (19-21, 21-12, 15-10).
The victory sent the Warriors' top pair into the fifth place match against Kenzie Dews and Tessa Marocco of Irvine Valley. The two squads met earlier in the week when the Warriors downed Irvine Valley in the 3C2A Team SoCal Regionals on Tuesday.
Dorr and D'Angelo won that match in two sets but it was a different stoy on Saturday as Marocco and Dews scored a 28-26, 24-26, 15-6 win to claim the No. 5 seed.
The Warriors duo will head to the 3C2A Pairs State Championships as the No. 6 seed from Southern California. The championships get underway on Thursday, May 9 at West Valley College with the team competition followed by the pairs on Friday and Saturday.
