Warriors Ready to Compete at CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs Championships

The 2017 beach volleyball season comes to a close this weekend and, while the Warriors did not advance to the team championships, El Camino will be represented with two squads qualifying for the 2017 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs Championships, which get started Saturday morning at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif.

The Warriors No 1 pair of Micah Hammond and Michelle Shimamoto and No. 2 pairs team of Taylor Brydon and Brooklyn Rubio will both take part in the 2017 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs Championships.

Brydon and Rubio earned the higher seed in qualifying at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championships and will be the No. 10 seed in the 32-team field. They will open up the tournament with a matchup against the No. 23 seed of Armonee Hunter and Sariah Flores.

Brydon and Rubio were 9-3 in PCAC play during the season and were ranked the third best No. 2 pairs team in the conference.

Hammond and Shimamoto are seeded No. 27 in the field will also face a pair from Ventura as the Warriors No. 1 pairs takes on the team of Mikayla Spears and Brianna Finch, who are seeded No. 6 overall in the tournament.

The tournament is split into four brackets; the Misty May bracket; Apirl Ross bracket; Keri Walsh-Jennings bracket, and Jen Kessy bracket.  

Brydon and Rubio reside in the Walsh-Jennings bracket while Hammond and Shimamoto are placed in the Jen Kessy bracket.

Both of those brackets are on the right side of the overall tournament, meaning both Warriors teams could meet in the semifinals on Sunday should they win out up until that point.

The matches begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m. until the bracket gets through the round of 16. The championships conclude Sunday at 10 a.m. starting with the quarterfinals up until a 2017 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs champion is crowned.
