Beach Volleyball Preps for Conference Championships
LONG BEACH, Calif. – El Camino College will head to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Individual Championships beginning Friday in Long Beach, Calif.
The Warriors have four pairs teams locked into the bracket while a fifth will have a playoff, with the winner facing the No. 1 overall seeded pair of Sarah Miller and Paige Panter of Long Beach.
El Camino's No. 1 pair of Micah Hammond and Michelle Shimamoto finished conference as the No. 5 overall seed, going 5-7 during conference play. They will open the conference championships on the bottom half of the No. 1 side of the bracket, taking on Rio Hondo's No. 4 pair of Sara Harding and Natalie Magallon.
The Warriors' No. 2 squad of Taylor Brydon and Brooklyn Rubio were ranked as the third best No. 2 pairs team in conference, going 9-3 in PCAC play. They draw the No. 10 overall seed and are the lone Warriors squad to reside on the right side of the bracket. They will face Grossmont's No. 4 pairs team of Khalia Jordan and Christina Barrameda, who went 10-2 in PCAC play against other No. 4 pairs.
Victoria Curtice and Megan Lim are seeded as the No. 17 overall team in conference and face the No. 16 team of Makena Wilson and Felicia Marshall, Grossmont's No. 3 pairs team. The Griffins pair defeated Lim and Curtice in their last matchup this season at El Camino, scoring a 2-0 (21-14, 21-18) victory over Lim and Curtice. The winner of that matchup is paired with the No. 1 overall seed of Panter and Miller from Long Beach.
The No. 24 seeded team of Aiko Waters and Kiana Takahashi draw Mira Costa's No. 2 squad of Madeleine Alper and Mailia Sellers, who go into the PCAC Championships as the No. 9 overall seed.
Lastly, the Warriors No. 5 pairs team of Nina Wyer and Melissa Euyoque enter the conference championships as the No. 32 seed and will face the No. 33 seed squad of Lizette Moore-Teague and Lisa Moore-Teague out of San Diego Mesa. Wyer and Euyoque defeated the Moore-Teague combo in their first meeting this season at ECC on March 31 (2-0; 21-11, 22-20) but lost the last encounter on April 7 at ECC, 2-0 (21-8, 21-18).
