Warriors Split Two Matches in Day One of Citrus Tournament

El Camino College split its first two matches in the opening day of the Citrus Tournament on Friday.

The Warriors opened the day with an 8-6 triumph over Pasadena thanks to three goals in the fourth quarter to turn a one-goal deficit into a two-goal victory. Ilene Guerrero led the way with six of the team's eight goals while Elizabeth Guerrero and Andrea Canchola each scored once. Sabrina Byrne and Elizabeth Guerrero both tallied two assists and Taylor Baird made 12 saves in net to give the Warriors the victory.

In the second match of the day, the Warriors comeback bid fell just short as they were edged by L.A. Valley, 7-6. The Warriors scored three times in the final period but the Monarchs lone goal in the fourth proved to be the difference as they held on for the win.

Canchola led the Warriors in scoring in the second match with four goals. Elizabeth Guerrero and Cindy Ngo rounded out the scoring for ECC with Ngo adding an assist as well. Solee Scarlet also had an assist and Baird made nine saves in the losing effort.

The Warriors will return to action on Saturday with two more matches at the Citrus Tournament against Allan Hancock and Citrus.
